Ren Bishi was very angry at the behaviour of warlords and bureaucrats who disregarded the safety of the country and the lives of the people, but squandered their property arbitrarily. In the essay titled Frugality, he wrote: Politicians today have private interests, embrace wives and concubines all the time, spend time and money leisurely, accompanying the governor of a certain province, sending each other to greet him, it costs money and is incalculable
