Chiang Kai-shek launched the April 12th counter-revolutionary coup, Shanghai workers and students held a rally to protest Chiang Kai-shek's massacre. The April 12th coup is also known as The Shanghai massacre, it was the violent suppression of Chinese Communist Party organizations and leftist elements in Shanghai by forces supporting Chiang Kai-shek and conservative factions in the Kuomintang
