Verney Lovett Cameron (1844-1894) English explorer in Central Africa. Born at Radipole near Weymouth, Dorset. Cameron's expedition to Africa (1872-1875). Being received by the king of the Congo. Cameron was chosen by the Royal Geographical Society to find Livingstone, but arrived after Livingstone was dead. He traced the Congo-Zambesi watershed for a great distance, and explored the southern half of Lake Tanganyika. Engraving from Le Journal de la Jeunesse (Paris, circa 1879)
