Viaduct on the Bridgewater Canal carrying it across the River Irwell. Built by the English civil engineer James Brindley (1716-1772) it was commissioned by the Duke of Bridgewater to carry coal from his mines at Worsley, Lancashire to the industrial city of Manchester
