Two teenagers outside the David Lewis Hotel, Liverpool
Two teenagers outside the David Lewis Hotel (or Hostel) and Theatre, fondly known as the Davy Lou, on Nile Street/Great George Street, Liverpool. Originally for seafarers, the hostel served as a temporary home for many transient workers in Liverpool, including these young apprentice electricians working on the construction of Liverpool's Sir John Moores Building for Littlewoods. The David Lewis Hotel was named after the philanthropist David Lewis (1822-1885), a successful department store owner. The building, built in the early 1900s, also housed a theatre and club. The theatre was initially a music hall but was also used by local amateur dramatic groups and as a cinema. During World War II it was known as the David Lewis Garrison Theatre. The building was demolished in 1980
