Amphilophium carolinae

Amphilophium carolinae, native to South America. Flowered in the gardens of the Earl of Ilchester at Melbury House in 1842. Named for the third earl Henry Fox-Strangways's daughter Caroline. Lady Caroline's bignonia, Bignonia carolinae. Handcoloured copperplate engraving by George Barclay after a botanical illustration by Sarah Drake from Edwards Botanical Register, continued by John Lindley, published by James Ridgway, London, 1844
