Costume of Courtier-Marron, agent provocateur.. Costume of Courtier-Marron, agent provocateur. He wears a foxskin hat or soldier's bicorn, short brown jacket of barracan, grey wool trousers, short leather boots, holding a cudgel. His unusual hairstyle was seen generally on deserters or soldiers on leave. Handcolored etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from Costumes of the Directory, Rouquette, Paris, 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99
