Costume of a standard bearer, ancient Rome. The aquilifer wears a leopard skin tied around his torso, animal-skin boots with lion heads. The aquila standard has a gold eagle, portrait, tablet with SPQR, and scarlet ribbon. Ruined arches and columns behind Porte Enseigne Romain. Handcoloured copperplate drawn and engraved by L.
