Costume of Valcourt, a muscadin.. Costume of Valcourt, a muscadin. He wears a redingote (frock coat) with huge lapels and long tails, and trousers in the same striped fabric. His shirt is fastened with an expensive medallion called a breviaire. Handcolored etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from Costumes of the Directory, Rouquette, Paris, 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99
