Costume of a Venetian basket carrier or cestaruoli, 16th century. He wears a felt hat, linen tunic, apron and sturdy shoes and carries fruit in a basket on his head and two ducks. Mostly men from Brescia or Bergamo, they were employed by butchers and fish merchants. Within a decorative frame engraved by H. Catenacci and Fellmann. Woodblock engraving by Gerard Seguin and E.F.
