A hero (Theseus) about to stab the centaur Euritus.. A hero (Theseus) about to stab the centaur Euritus who had attempted to rape Hippodamia, wife of Pirithous. It provoked the famous war between the Lapiths and the centaurs described by Ovid in his Metamorphoses. Painting on marble excavated in Resina in March 1749.
