The problem with Capote bonnets
The problem with Capote bonnets: two women's deep-brimmed bonnets collide as they greet each other, while fashionable men watch. The bonnets with long sides were obviously invented by pretty coquettes who wanted to prick the curiosity of men and keep them mystified until the last moment. Handcoloured engraving from Pierre de la Mesangere's Le Bon Genre, Paris, 1817
