Saint Andrew crucified on an x-shaped cross
Saint Andrew the Apostle crucified on an x-shaped cross outside a castle in Patras, c.60 AD. Some of the 14th century costumes appear fantastic, and the whole resembles Flemish art. From a missal made for Denis du Moulin, Bishop of Paris, MS 182, Bibliotheque de l'Arsenal. France XIVe Siecle. Saint Andre sur la Croix. Chromolithograph by Moulin after an illustration by Claudius Joseph Ciappori from Charles Louandre's Les Arts Somptuaires, The Sumptuary Arts, Hangard-Mauge, Paris, 1858
