Sir William Balfour of Pitcullo, c. - e1578 - 1660, Scottish professional soldier who served in the Thirty Years War and as a general with the Roundheads or Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War. In armour on horseback armed with an axe. Lieutenant of the Tower of London, Colonel of a Regiment under the Earl of Essex. From the unique equestrian plate in Earl Spencer's copy of Clarendon's History of the Rebellion, 1704.
