Blackbirds revue, 1927
Page from The Sphere with photographs of scenes and stars of the popular revue, Blackbirds, at the Pavilion Theatre in 1926-7. Central is the star performer Florence Mills. The Blackbirds Revue cast was entirely African-American. The show was first performed in Harlem, then at the Ambassadeurs in Paris in the summer of 1926, before being brought to London by Charles Cochran, opening in September 1926. The Prince of Wales led society who flocked to see it - he admitted to going eleven times
