WW2 - Scharnhorst - German Battleship
Scharnhorst - a German capital ship, alternatively described as a battleship or battlecruiser, of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. The lead ship of her class, which included her sister ship Gneisenau. Sunk on December 26th, 1943 near Bear Island (within the Arctic Circle) by the Royal Navy battleship HMS Duke of York and her escorts. Pictured firing a salute to mark Hitler's birthday (in an unidentified port)
