Supertanker terminal being built, Loch Long, near Glasgow

1958 - EUROPE'S FIRST SUPER TANKER TERMINAL: A terminal for 100, 000-ton super tankers, the first in Europe, is being built at Finnart, on the eastern shore of Loch Long, near Glasgow, Scotland. Due for completion at the end of this year, an extension of existing facilities, it will consist of a 180 feet jetty from the edge of the Loch with a minimum depth of 55 feet at low water and four tanks each capable of taking 6, 000, 000 Imperial gallons of oil.
