Abris des Quatre Cheminees
Abris des Quatre Cheminees - A large underground bunker on the edge of Ravines des Vignes used as a shelter and hospital. On 22nd June 1916, the area was bombared with gas which penetrated the shelter and many of the wounded were killed. On the 23rd the German managed to get on top of the abris and threw grenades down the ventilation shafts but a French counter-attack threw them off and the German attack at Verdun had reached its furthest point
