Fields of Battle, Lands of Peace - Log Pog Mangartom
Austro-Hungarian WWI Cemetery at Log Pog Mangartom containing over 800 graves. The battles of Isonzo consisted of 12 battles between Austro-Hungarian and Italian forces between May 1915 and 27 October 1917 along the river Isonzo ( modern Soca'). The final battle, generally known as Caparetto, saw the destruction of the Italian army and a headlong retreat of 120 km to the Piave river. It is estimated that the Italians lost 300, 000 and the Austrians 200, 000 dead in this area
