Cantigny - 1918
Cantigny - 1918 - Sunrise in the Vallee de Coullmelle which was one the routes taken by the attacking Americans, looking east towards Cantigny.
The Americans undertook their first major egagement of WW1 on the morning of May 28th 1918 when the US 1st Division attacked and held the village of Cantigny. The division suffered 199 dead and 867 wounded and the 28th Infantry regiment, under Col Hanson Ely, which had spear-headed the attack was awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French
