Fields of Battle - Aisne
Carrieres de Confrecourt. The limestone ridge to the north of the river Aisne is notable for the number of subterranean queries - creutes - which were excavated to provide building stone for the buildings and abbeys of the region. During the war these provided shelter for the soldiers of both sides and the stone provided a suitable material for carvings and other notable reminders of the war
