Fields of Battle - Italy, Mt.Tofana

Tofana di Rozes from Zima di Ouzargo Tofana and Lagazuoi to the north of the Falzarego Pass were the scene of bitter fighting between Austrians and Italians with extensive mining operations. The war along the 80km Dolomite front was notable for the fact that about 2/3rds of the 90, 000 men who died in the three years of fighting were killed by lightning, storms, avalanches, landslides and rockfalls
