Fields of Battle - Masurian Lakes
Eastern front - Battle of Masurian Lakes 1914 German 8/Army under Hindenburg sought to follow up the success at Tannenburg in Aug 1914 by encircling Russian 1/Army under Rennenkampf in the region of the Masurian Lakes. The attack commenced on Sept 7th and by the 13th the entire Russian Army had been cleared from East Prussia, suffering over 120, 000 casualties. It led to the rise of Hindenburg and his Chief of Staff, Erich Ludendorff
