Death of Wilfred Owen crossing of Sambre - Oise Canal Lt Wilfred Owen MC Manchester Regiment was killed here on 4 November in attack across the canal whilst 2 other officers ( one from Lancashire Regiment ) were awarded V.C.s. Shot looking north-east towards la Motte near the point where the Manchester Regiment were trying to cross the canal on floating cork bridges
