Fields of Battle - Ypres
Broodseinde Ridge, Zonnebeke, Looking from low ground to SE of Zonnebeke up towards the Broodseinde Ridge. The flat nature of the Flemish plain around Ypres emphasises the value of any high ground and this photograph shows how even a slight noise gives dominating views over the surrounding ground. This ridge was a major objective of the battle of Passchendaele in 1917
