Langemarck German Cemetery
44, 292 burials including 25, 000 in mass grave with their names upon black metal blocks. The crosses are purely symbolic and the flat stones mark the burial place of groups of soldiers. Adolf Hitler visited here in 1940 and for many years this cemetery, reflecting as it does the losses of young student soldiers here in 1914, was the centre of German right wing mouring and the Langemarck Myth'. The four mourning figures are by Emil Krieger
