Memorial to Capt Charles Harris Ds C. - Cunel - Argonne

Memorial to Capt Charles Dashiell Harris, Ds C, 6th Bde US Army killed nearby on 20 Oct 1918 whilst leading an attack on the Bois de Clairs Chenes by the 3d Div. AEF. Harris at 20 was reputed to be the youngest Capt. in the AEF. The Americans managed to capture a large part of the wood but an German counter-attack forced them back and Harris, badly wounded was captured. His last words to the captured American soldier who was helping carry him was Houghton, I guess it's just not our day'.
