Wilfred Owen - Sambre Canal
Sambre Oise - Sambre - Oise Canal Sambre - OIse Canal - Oct - Nov 1918 Lt Wilfred Owen MC Manchester Regiment was killed here on 4th Nov in attack across the canal whilst 2 other officers (one from Lancashire Regiment) were awarded VCs. Shot looking north-east towards la Motte near the point where the Manchester Regiment were trying to cross the canal on floating cork bridges. Two VCs were awarded to 2nd Lt James Kirk and Lt Col John Neville Marshal for the same action
