Seven wonders of the world, drawn by Marten van Heemskerck: Der Pharos von Alexandrien. Stich von Philipp Galle. 1567. The lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt. Built in the 3rd century BC, the height of the lighthouse was estimated to be between 380 and 440 ft. It was identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Antipater of Sidon. The lighthouse was badly damaged, with barely any remaining ruins, after three earthquakes. The first was in 956, then another in 1303, and the last in 1323
