The Alabama was built in a British shipyard, by British workmen, with British oak, armed with British guns, manned with British sailors, trained in the British Navy, and was sunk in the British channel, in 80 minutes, by the Yankee Sloop of War Kearsarge under Captain John A. Winslow. The Battle of Cherbourg, was a single ship action between a United States Navy warship, the USS Kearsarge, and a Confederate States Navy warship, the CSS Alabama, on June 19, 1864, off Cherbourg, France
