Two accredited artists accompanied Perry to Japan and their sketches were published in his official report to Congress. This one shows Japanese men and women bathing together, caused a Congressional furor and was later suppressed. According to Perry, the lower class people of Japan had lax morals and enjoyed looking at obscene pictures
