Burkburnett, Texas, Oil Field

A panoramic view of the Burkburnett, Texas oil field. In 1912 oil was discovered west of the town, attracting thousands to the area. By 1918 approximately twenty-thousand people had settled around the oilfield. This view shows viewed the northwest side, opposite the Fowler farm, original discovery well and swinging towards the northwest. Photographed circa 1919
