Carl Zeiss
Carl Zeiss. Portrait of Carl Zeiss (1816-88), German manufacturer of precision optical instruments. Zeiss went into partnership with Ernst Abbe and Otto Schott to design and manufacture microscopes and telescopes. Zeiss had a practical understanding of instrument design, Abbe had theoretical knowledge of lenses and Schott was an optical glass specialist. Between them they improved microscopes and telescopes. The Zeiss works at Jena, Germany, produced the finest instruments in the world
