Death and Burial of Poor Cock Robin

Title page of the children's book Death and Burial of Poor Cock Robin. Who Killed Cock Robin? is an English nursery rhyme. The rhyme has often been reprinted with illustrations, as suitable reading material for small children. The rhyme also has an alternative ending, in which the sparrow who killed cock robin is hanged for his crime. Several early versions picture a stocky, strong-billed bullfinch tolling the bell, which may have been the original intention of the rhyme. Henry Louis Stephens (February 11, 1824 - December 13, 1882) was an American illustrator and editorial cartoonist. Stephens was well known as a caricaturist, excelling especially in the humorous delineation of animals. He illustrated some children's books, including Aesop's Fables, Death of Cock Robin, and The House that Jack Built.
