Depression Era Homeless

Near an East River pier on 12th St. in New York City, a small group of unemployed men try to keep warm around a makeshift fire. A modest Chistmas tree outside the shack adds a small measure of holiday cheer. Taken in 1938 by Russell Lee for the Farm Security Administration (FSA)
