Ernest Rutherford's Laboratory
The laboratory of Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937), chemist and physicist and the father of nuclear physics. He discovered the nature of atomic structure and energy in this room at Cambridge University, photographed here in 1926. After discovering that atoms have a small charged nucleus, he developed the Rutherford model of the atom, which was later modified into the Bohr model. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908
