From left to right: William Allen Miller (December 17, 1817 - September 30, 1870) a chemist remembered for his contributions to the sciences of spectroscopy and astrochemistry, new fields in his time. William Thomas Brande (January 11, 1788 - February 11, 1866) was the first to isolate the element lithium, and was famous for his texts, a Manual of Chemistry, first published in 1819, and a Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art in 1842, among other works. Michael Faraday (September 22, 1791 - August 25, 1867) was an English scientist who contributed to the study of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. His main discoveries include the principles underlying electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis. William Robert Grove (July 11, 1811 - August 1, 1896) was a Welsh scientist who anticipated the general theory of the conservation of energy, and was a pioneer of fuel cell technology.
