Famous English Scientists, 19th Century

From left to right. William Allen Miller (December 17, 1817 - September 30, 1870) primarily a chemist, the scientific contributions for which Miller is mainly remembered today are in spectroscopy and astrochemistry, new fields in his time. William Thomas Brande (January 11, 1788 - February 11, 1866) In 1821 he was the first to isolate the element lithium, which he did by electroylsis of lithium oxide. Manual of Chemistry, first published in 1819, enjoyed wide popularity, and among other works he brought out a Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art in 1842. Michael Faraday (September 22, 1791 - August 25, 1867) was an English scientist who contributed to the study of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. His main discoveries include the principles underlying electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis. William Robert Grove (July 11, 1811 - August 1, 1896) was a Welsh judge and physical scientist. He anticipated the general theory of the conservation of energy, and was a pioneer of fuel cell technology. He invented the Grove voltaic cell. Thomas Graham (December 21, 1805 - September 11, 1869) was a Scottish chemist who is best-remembered today for his pioneering work in dialysis and the diffusion of gases. He is regarded as the father of colloid chemistry
