Fraunhofer Lines
This picture of Fraunhofer lines is taken from an original work by Fraunhofer himself. The lines appear as narrow dark stripes on the variously colored background of a continuous spectrum. The upper curve indicates the brightnesses which the human eye can identify in the solar spectrum. In physics and optics, Fraunhofer lines are a set of spectral lines named for the German physicist Joseph von Fraunhofer (1787-1826)
