Glory, Optical Phenomenon, 1889
French astronomer Camille Flammarion observed halo-like rings of colored light around the shadow of his balloon at the height of 1415m, 1868. This optical phenomenon is called a glory, which appears opposite the Sun's direction when uniformly-sized water droplets in clouds refract and backscatter sunlight. Illustration, 1888. Colorized
