Gyroscope Illustration
Illustration of a spinning gyroscope. A gyroscope has a heavy spinning disc, known as a flywheel, mounted on an axle. Gyroscopes are used in stabilisation devices and in compasses in boats and aircraft. In this illustration, changes in position could be observed by direct study of the vertical ring on the gyro through the microscope, but the use of pointer and scale make it easier to detect movement
