Hooke's Law
An illustration by the English scientist and polymath Robert Hooke (1635-1703), who, among many achievements, coined the biological term cell, wrote the book Micrographia (detailing his observations through his microscope), and constructed the first working model of a reflecting telescope. This illustration demonstrates Hooke's Law, which states that the tension in a material is in proportion to its extension, meaning that if an elastic object is stretched by a force twice as large, it will be stretched twice as much as before
