Illustration of Hertz's Oscillator and receiver of waves
Hertz's famous oscillator and receiver of radio waves. The sender (left) was a spark gap loaded with two metal plates that acted like a condenser. Sparks in the gap radiated high frequency waves. When the second spark gap (right) and the ring were of the right size, the spark was reproduced without any wire connection
