Islamic Cosmographical Diagram
An Islamic cosmographical diagram from 1080 AD. The universal intellect worships God in the Muslim formula la ilahah illa'llah, that is, there is no God but Allah'. This formula has 4 words, 7 syllables and in Arabic 12 letters. The Ismaili philospher Nasir Khusraw considered that these corresponded to the structure of the cosmos: 4 elements, 7 planets, and 12 zodiac signs. The intervening levels are modes of worship: purification, submission and glorification. This type of esoteric cosmographical diagram was highly valued in Islamic mystical philosophy
