James Hargreaves, Spinning Jenny, 1764
James Hargreaves (1720 - April 22, 1778) was an English weaver, carpenter and inventor. In 1764 he invented the spinning jenny, a multi-spindle spinning frame. It was one of the key developments in the industrialization of weaving. The device reduced the amount of work needed to produce cloth, with a worker able to work eight or more spools at once.
