: Jesus and Muhammad, 18th century

Jesus and Muhammad, 18th century

Jesus on a donkey and Muhammad on a camel riding together. Illustrates the esteem that Muslims feel for the Christian Jesus. He is regarded as one of the great prophets and the direct precursor of Muhammad. He proclaimed the Gospels, as Moses before him proclaimed the Torah and as Muhammad proclaimed the Koran after him. In the Koran he is called the word of god and messiah, but he is considered only a man free of sin and not the son of God. He will return at the end of time, rule as a righteous Muslim and restore unity to mankind. Persian miniature from a work by al-Biruni, 18th century
