Karl Landsteiner, US-Austrian Biologist
Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943), Austrian-born American biologist and immunologist who distinguished the main blood groups, identified the Rhesus factor with Alexander S. Wiener, enabling safe blood transfusions, and discovered the polio virus with Constantin Levaditi and Erwin Popper. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1930
