Liebig's Lab Equipment
These instruments are reproductions of those Justus von Liebig used. Liebig (1803-1873) was a German chemist and professor who devised the method of using a laboratory to teach his students, an innovation that remains central to modern instruction. In the center is a distilling apparatus. Flanking it are two retorts and some tongs. All of them bear a strong resemblance to the equipment pictured in medieval illustrations of alchemists worktables
