Linus Pauling, Nobel Prize 1954/1962

Linus Pauling (1901-1994), an American chemist famous for his insights into the nature of chemical bonds. Much of his work in the 1930s involved x-ray studies of the shapes of amino acids and peptides, which was crucial to James Watson and Francis Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA. Pauling won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1954 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962
