Khmer head of Lokeshvara, stone, Cambodia. 12-13th century. Lokeshvara, translated as he who looks over the world, is the embodiment of compassion in Mahayana Buddhism. This sculpture portrays Amoghapasa Lokeshvara, who is the spiritual son of Buddha Amitabha and a manifestation of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara
